Origin name - Two versions exist, the first one has origin from the Latin "Virga" - Virgemulum" - Vergemoli (hypothesis of the historian Lopez Pegna), the second has origin from "Vallis Gemina" separation of two valleys (hypothesis of the historical Raffaelli)

February 7 th 1308 - First news of the foundry of Fornovolasco, the notary of Camaiore Antonio writes a contract of sale for of the mineral one (iron) coming from the island in Elba to be worked in the foundry of Fornovolasco "Furno Volaschi, Vicaria di Barga."
1272 - Lucca inserts Fornovolasco in the jurisdiction of the "Vicaria of Barga"
